Help! Side affects with Avastin for Wet Myopic Degeneration

Post a new topicby Jeanie95014 on Sat Jul 25, 2009 1:46 pm

I need some help. My retinologist who has been treating me with injections of Avastin has not been forthcomming with it's side effects. I am 40 years old and have been near sighted since I was 7. So needless to say my diagnosis was not expected. Ever since my first injection, 7 weeks ago, my eyes get very sore and achy. The pain intensifies to the point where I can no longer wear my lenses and must lay down and rest (usually with in 4 hours of wearing my lenses). I also experience nausea, exhaustion and body aches. My retinologist dismisses my concerns with, "It must be allergies." I've never had these issues before I started treatment with Avastin. Now he has passed me onto my optomalogist when I needed answers weeks ago. I am returning to work with in a week and all of my work is done on computers. I'm concerned that even though my eye sight has improved I may be forced to work part time because of this treatment.
Has anyone experienced these side affects after being treated with Avastin for Wet Myopic Degeneration?

I've had a total of 3 injections with my last injection Sept 24th. After 3 months of recovered vision my vision loss returned and I had a 4th injection December 28th. I am seeking a 2nd opinion to find out if Avastin is the only treatment that I can receive or if here are pthers treatments inconjunction with Avastin that I could have. My current retinologist is good but lacks a bed side manner and doesn't like answering some of my questions, such as: is dry eye a side affect from the Avastin, also are headaches a symptom, is stress a factor, etc. Anyway, after this last injection my eye sight is not better so I assume I will be getting another injection in 6 weeks and then another 6 weeks after that.

I am at the point that I think maybe it might be eaffecting my copd, I have 20% lung capacity, each time i ge ta shot i get really conjested and not breathing is scary also, I used to think when the doctor told me I had macular degeneration, that i had rather see than breath. How silly was that? Very lol..
Now, I'm so stress , trying to decide if i want another shot or what..
Thanks for listening..
Jeanie,I can also see much better but have never had the problems with my body that i do now...
