Urethral Strictures: Catherter or Stent

Post a new topicby OrlandoGuy on Wed Jan 20, 2010 7:32 pm

I've seen two urologists locally after i was diagnosed with urethral strictures that were causing me a pinch of pain followed by droplets of blood on my underwear. Blood was never found in my urinalysis on multiple occasions so after a cystoscopy and a dilation of a few stricture (one being dilated from 10 French to 24 French) I was sent home for a "fun" time passing clots. Unfortunately, my condition hasn't changed after 6 weeks of healing and the pain returned. As a result, I decided to get a second-opinion and Urologist #2 recommended that this time we do a dilation but have a catherter in for the 3-5 day healing process to keep the strictures from reclosing, which is something Urologist No. 1 sent me home without.
Now I find myself between Urologist No.1 and Urologist No. 2 who want to recommend using a Stent No. 1's choice) or use the catherter after the dilation (No. 2's choice). Not sure which will have a better success rate. Please help!
