TUNA Procedure - Sitting On The FenceI am 54 years old and I am comntemplating having the TUNA procedure done based on the advice of my urologist I have an enlarged prostate with the following conditions. I currently am able to sleep through the night with only occassionally having to wake to urinate, my urine stream is fairly strong and I am not taking any medications for BPH What is a problem is incontinence that occurs just after I fall asleep when my body relaxes, a small amount of urine is passed in an involuntary reflex. Similar incontinence occurs during waking hours for a 24 hour period after (sex) ejaculation subsiding to only at night after 48 hours. I have been biopsied (prostate) twice in the last three years (no cancer found) and after the second round of biopsies the incontinence issue began and developed into a problem.
I am in the early stages of living the rest of my life with an enlarged prostate but I feel I may be better off engaging in the TUNA proceedure in my later years as my prostate issues become more severe. However if I can be free of these and other symptoms for 5 to 10 years then let "technology" prevail and then TUNA be done. So I am left sitting on the fence, to TUNA or not to TUNA that is the question? Can someone who has experienced this procedure first hand push me off the fence.
Re: TUNA Procedure - Sitting On The FenceI am 66 and have been dealing with BPH for about 12 – 14 years. Also had two biopsies both negative. My older brother had a tuna and he is not happy with the results. I don’t know what the percent of good outcomes from a tuna procedure, but there seems to be a lot of bad ones. I also want to delay any surgery/tuna as long as possible and wait for better technology.
I went the drug route and am taking Avodart with good results. It took 6 months + to get good results with Avodart, but my prostate has shrunk and I get up only once a night. I do get some “after urination dripping” but I can live with that. I also had some initial sexual side effects but they went away over time. Since I don’t like the idea of prostate surgery, I will stay with Avodart as long as possible! Might be worth a try.
