Diagnosed ALS but no meds

Post a new topicby vinci on Sat Jan 26, 2008 8:24 pm

I was diagnosed with ALS 3 months ago, however, not 1 of the 3 doctors, 1 is a specialist has prescribed any medication to me! Is this normal! If not, what do I do!

Hi,
I am new to this forum. I have been having symptoms, I am waiting to see the neruo surgeon.
Anyway I read that there have been developments in the way of lithium for keeping ALS from progressing too quickly. Maybe you can talk to your Dr. about it. (research it yourself of course)
I wish you the best. Keep your mind positive and live your life to the fullest.
God bless!

hi,i am 43 and was diagnosed with bulbar onset als last month, and i am going to get a second opinion at the end of the month, and i plan on making sure the doctor puts me on something,i have read about riluteck, lithium and several other things that help keep it from progressing so fast.sometimes you have to tell a dr what you would like if they dont agree, then find another dr,because if you are diagnosed with als then they should not have a problem prescribing you with some meds that possibly might help .i have had a long 3 years of trying to get to a diagnosis, this is not the one i wanted but i got answers anyways, and alot of dr's thought i was just crazy ,but now i can look at them in the eye and they are the ones that should feel bad that they did not find the answer.so you tell them what you want,if they don't want to help then tell them you will find another dr that is more experienced to help you...good luck,,wanda
